Post subject: AS2005 - Only administrators can connect???
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>sqlserver>olap (more info?)

Some time last week users complained that they could not access our cube.
I tested connectivity using Sql Server Management Studio / Browse Cube and
tried connecting using various users and roles. I found that all the roles
were working as normal but the only users I could connect as were
administrators.
For example MYDOMAIN\MyUser is a member of the role Standard Users. I can
connect using the credentials of Standard Users but not MYDOMAIN\MyUser.
However MYDOMAIN\MyAdminUser is a Domain Admin and I can connect using his
credentials.
Can anyone tell me why only Adminstrators are being allowed to connect to
the cube. I must be missing something but I can't figure out what it is.

Thanks,

Peter

Hi Peter,
Thank you for using Microsoft MSDN Managed Newsgroup. My name is Charles
and I will assist you on this issue.

From your description, I understand that all the domain user accounts with
the Standard Users role could not connect to your cube now but domain
administrators could.
If I have misunderstood, please let me know.

I recommend that you check if the Read or Read/Write permissions granted to
your role was removed. You can refer to this article to check and reset it:
Granting Cube Access
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms174799(SQL.90).aspx

If this issue persists, I recommend that you try recreating a test role
according to this article and add your domain user to this role and see if
it helps.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Best regards,
Charles Wang
