Archived from groups: comp>databases>ingres (more info?)

Hello Team,

We are here have Ingres 2.6 II runing SP5 on AIX 4.3 32 bit, and one
special patch was applied (13007).

We are planning to migrate it to AIX 5.3 64 Bit, my question is the
order to be followed until last patch.

On new BOX AIX 5.3 64 bit i am planning to new fresh install.

1st) Install Ingres 2.6 II (32 bit)
2nd) Apply SP5 32 Bit
3rd) Apply the 13007 special patch
4ft) And after apply SP5 64 bit (ingres2.6-260604-00-AIX-UX-64bit.tar)
r64.us5/00

Ps: We are planning to UNLOAD all DB on source machine and after
patches applied LOAD all Database
Is it correct? Any suggestion?

Thank you,
Erick

why would you need steps 1-3, isn't step 4 a complete replacement?
after all, you are moving up in AIX release, and changing from 32 to
64 bit?

and wouldn't you need the appropriate patches for it, installed after
it gets installed????

About steps 1-3, i really donīt know if the file provided.
(ingres2.6-260604-00-AIX-UX-64bit.tar) is
a full install or only a patch. Do you know?

if it isn't, then you need it....the what I'm trying to tell you is
that at make no sense to install 32 bit software (steps 1-3) when you
are going to upgrade to 64 bit anyway... everything needs replaced.

also, before you begin, make sure you have your "special patch"
available in 64bit form if you still need it, as the 32 bit version
won't be useful
