Post subject: Changing the past
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>sqlserver>datawarehouse (more info?)

We recently discovered that some of our BI Reporting tools (Performance
Point), do not function correctly when we have an apostrophe in the name.
For example we have a program called "Director's Office" - the apostrophe in
the name makes some of the links inoperable via the SharePoint portal.

So we are thinking about removing the apostrophe to start with in all our
program names. I'm hesitant to just update the tables and removing the
apostrophe - and also changing the ETL. Although this isn't changing a
value like from 50 to 150 - it's sort of correcting a spelling mistake - so
maybe it's ok.

What are best pratices when it comes to this stuff? If I simply treat this
just as a SCD - we still have the problem of it not working in the toolset
when they look at it prior to the slow change.
