Post subject: Choose Replication Method
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>sqlserver>replication (more info?)

Hi All,

I need to configure Data Replication (One Way) from a Server in US to a two
different Servers in India and Japan. The latency time is 2-3 hours.

Which is the replication method to go with and why?
Do I need a distributor, if so where so the distributor be?

This is what I want to do.

Server A - Publisher (US)
Table 1
Table 2
Table 3
Table 4
Table 5

I have to replicate the data for only these two tables(1 & 2) from Server A
Server B - Subscriber 1 (India)
Table 1
Table 2

I have to replicate the data for only these two tables(3,4 & 5) from Server A
Server C - Subscriber 2 (Japan)
Table 3
Table 4
Table 5

Thanks

I'd recommend transactional replication. You only need one-way flow of data
which makes this suitable. You'll need 2 publications. The distributor should
normally be with the publisher. This partly depends on the time for data to
flow from pub to dist and from dist to subscriber. If these times are
important, then a remote distributor nearer India or Japan could be
considered. In your case it sounds like the latency isn't a mayor factor, so
I'd make it easier to maintain and have the distributor on the publisher.
