Post subject: IUGN Christmas Dinner
Archived from groups: comp>databases>ingres (more info?)

As you will remember, the IUGN had its Christmas meeting last week.
Mark Luijendijk very kindly asked me to do a presentation, which I think
went well.

I wouldn't mention the very pleasant meal we had afterwards, but I know
Mike, Karl, Marty and others will want to congratulate me on my good
fortune. They were not at all jealous and none of them wished me
ill-health so that he would have to stand-in for me. (There
WAS one email but I am sure I just mis-read it, and that it
really intended to convey support and good cheer! Smile

I shall ignore the champagne cocktails, charcuterie, and amuse bouche we
had in the bar before sitting down. Looking at the printed menu it says
there were six courses, but I am pretty sure there was one missing from
the printed menu. I think there were seven.

*Menu*

Home-smoked salmon, creme of smoked pigeon, and a mabre of pheasant with
goose liver, on raisin bread

Bouillon of game, topped with a white chocolate foam

Partridge with sauerkraut and morels

Venison filet, meatballs and stew

Parfait of caramel and nuts on marinated pineapple

Mocca with friandises

I don't really know what time it ended, but I waddled off to my room at
2AM. I was not the last.

I hope you enjoyed this report. I know Mike, Marty, and Karl would do
the same for me!

Smile

But seriously, many, many thanks to the IUGN for inviting me. We had a
great time.

If there are any Dutch Ingres users reading this who don't
attend the IUGN events, you really should. It is a really useful
organization that will provide you with excellent support and contacts.

Roy,

I am truly jealous. As you know, many years ago the IUGN was gracious
enough to invite
me to speak at one of their gatherings. You were there as well.

It was a tremendous experience, not to mention a tremendous meal
afterwards.

I'm certain Roy could recite the menu we had back then.

For a speaking gift, I received a very large umbrella. I still use it
to this day
and fondly remember the trip.

I hope Wim de Boer is still out there somewhere! I haven't heard from
him in
a while.

Cheers,

Mikey

Hi gang,

Yes Mikey, I'm still out here, doing fine. I'm not reading the
newsgroups anymore due to lack of time, but am keeping an archive of
the digest version. However, I am an Ingres reseller and still the
secretary of the Dutch Ingres User Group (IUGN).

It's been my pleasure Roy, inviting you over. Who know what next
year'll bring...Ingres World in Amsterdam Wink ?.

Cheers,
Wim
