msdex86.exe is not MSDE 2000, it's MSDE 1.0, the "ancestral" version based
on SQL Server 7.0 and not SQL Server 2000..
MSDE 1.0 it's no longer available for download.. you can find it on older
Office packages (I think is should be available on Office 2000), on "MSDE
for Visual Studio 6.0" companion CD and the like..
but as you want MSDE 2000, you should go for (at least) MSDERelA, upgraded
at sp 3 of SQL Server 2000.. but it does not consume an unattended.iss setup
file.. you can eventually provide command line paramters configuration
values or consume a defined ".ini" configuration file..

if you need MSDE, you can still geti it for free at
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyI...13744d1
on th contrary, MSDN is a set of resources... it includes a "subscription"
you have to pay for in order to download "restricted" (AKA commercial)
bits..
