I have a new install of Server 2003 with SQL Server 2008 ... How do I get the
Object Explorer to display in the Management Studio. Selecting F8 or
View/Object Explorer from the menu does nothing.

I had this problem... I assume I inadvertently dragged the object explorer
tab off the GUI (but don't remember doing anything like that). It was quite
frustrating and took a while to figure out (with the help of Steve Kass).
Go to the Window menu and choose Reset Window Layout...

I had this today, just before a presentation. With a slight beginning of panic feeling I just exited
SSMS and started it again, and my tabs were back in position...
