Archived from groups: comp>databases>oracle>server (more info?)

I've installed Oracle 10G on my computer. I can log in using system
account. by plsql. I've installed designer and tried to log from
designers plsql to the same databse also using sys account - I could
not't, I got ora-1017 error. What I'm doing wrong, why plsql from
database installation connects me and one from designer installation
disallow me from connecting ? I need databse just to run designer for
entity and processes diagrams. I need Barkers notation so I can only
use Oracle Designer because it's the only tool with Barkers notation.

Hope to get some help from You,
Jacek

[oracle@oracle16 ~]$ oerr ora 1017
01017, 00000, "invalid username/password; logon denied"
// *Cause:
// *Action:
[oracle@oracle16 ~]$

Have you tried using the right password?

What do you exactly mean by Logging in from Designer with a sys account?
When you install Designer, you create a repository in a repository owner
schema. As the owner, you can grant other users to use the designer
repository. Use such a user to work with Designer. You may not be able
to use SYS though, for SYS can only connect as SYSDBA or SYSOPER, and I
don't think Designer offers those options.

There is a tool called SmartDraw, (see www.smartdraw.com) and it
supports Barker's as well. I'm not in any way involved in this company,
so it's no advice, just a remark.
