Reading dbf files with different file extension

Hello,

I am trying to read a dbf (dbase IV) file in VB6.0 using DAO 3.6, but
I can't do it if the file does not have a .dbf extension. I have to
read a file with a different extension that I cannnot change because
it is the output file of another program.

Is there any way to read a .dbf file that has an extension different
from .dbf??
