Archived from groups: microsoft>public>sqlserver>replication (more info?)

I've setting up a mirror, the database is 500GB, the .trn files are 400MB
every 15 mins, issue is when I restore the DB I can never catch-up the replay
of the .trn files to start the mirror because the replay/restore of the .trn
files takes hours, is there a solution for this? or a better method, ideally
MS would set it up so I kick of the mirror and the data is simply sync'd to
my mirrored server and of we go!

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Some people can mirror 30 databases, others struggle mirroring a single one.

It looks like you either do a lot of logging, or your network bandwidth is
not sufficient to support mirroring.

With SQL Server 2008 the log files can be compressed which may help you - EE
Edition only.

Thanks Hilary, you might be right! I assume if I backup the DB, take it
offline immediatly then take it accross and restore then kick of the mirror I
can do it this way? I'm concerned about bandwidth now, I have a 100MB WAN
link between the sites but it's not dedicated, fast link though which is why
I wanted mirroring, if the bandwidth isn't copeing I assume the system will
slow down? or will it simply fall behind and catch-up during the night with
no effect to the users using the system? I can copy a 500MB transaction file
accross in under a minute, I thought with that throughput we'd be fine with a
mirror?

Thanks for you help.

I don't think you will be able to take a mirror offline.

If your bandwith is not up to mirroring you will constantly be in a state of
synchronizing and never get synchronized.
