This is driving me NUTS

I know form many years use of Windows that if an update is installed either
automaticlly or maunually it will be removed from the list. How eve not this
one

if I do try to down load and install from , Vista Ultimate, Avalable Updates
I contiually get the error message "SQL BPA command line has stopped working"
and I have to stop the installation.

I have actuall manually down loaded the SQL 2005 Express Edition + Advanced
Services SP3 (KB255706) ran and intalled it with out any problem.

SO how do I either REMOVE it form the list of avalble updates (not by
unchecking it as it comes backup checked every update sesion) so that it
NEVER apperas again or how do I get it to correctly install (not come up with
the error message/stopage) form there so that Windows will automatiaclly
remove it from the list.

How many instances of SQL Server Express do you now have? You have one with
SP3 (which you installed manually) but that update is in the list probably
because you have at least one instance < SP3. If you don't need that other
instance, remove it...

In program & Features I see the following :-
Microsoft SQL Server 2005
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Backwards comaptability
Microsoft SQL Server Managment Studio Express
Microsoft SQL Native Client
Microsoft SQL Server VSS Writer

I can't remove this from the update lis in Vista it just keeps coming back
into the list. I just ignor it.

The error code that comes up is "7370 Windows Update Encountered an unknow
error"

Since the post is a bit old, you might have solved it in the meantime.
If not, here's what helped me:
Obviously, SP3 was not able to update reporting services. (crashing with the
mentioned "SQL BPA command line..." message)

I started 'change' for SQL Server from uninstall programs in control panel
and uninstalled reporting services.
Then I started SQLEXPR_ADV (the one you downloaded manually) and installed
reporting services again (now with SP3).

After configuring reporting services from scratch again (ouch!), the update
completed successfully and now doesn't bother anymore.

Waht would happen is that I would allow the install to go ahead, reboot, and
then within a couple of hours it was back.

I eventually uninstalled ALL SQL, using a unistall program revo uninstaller
as it also cleans out the registarys as well.

I then re-installed SQL and that stopped the contiual update alert BUT I had
to renove and reinstall Autodesk Inventor and Autodesk Vault to get those tow
programs to work with SQL again.

But all is OK now , touch wood.
