Post subject: SQL 2005 SP2 (Cluster) Fails to update Database Services only
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>sqlserver>setup (more info?)

Hi,

Like many others I have had problems with the install of SP2 on a cluster,
ive got over many hurdles but can't sort out this one below:

The Cluster is Active\Passive and the message I get is Error 11009 Passive
nodes not updated. Ive tried all the suggestions i can find apart from a
re-install which i really do not want to attempt after all the hard work.
All components are successfully updated except Database Services.

If i try the suggestion of taking out the passive node and just coaxing the
update to install on the active node only i get the 'Domain Group error' and
the 'can't read the registry key Debug error'.

MSTDC is ok, SQL Browser OK on both nodes. Using a Domain Admin account with
builtin admin rights to try and force the update on.

The cluster is now working fine and is operational but now my Maintenance
Plan is failing which i would think is because the Service Pack has not gone
on completely and haven't applied the next Hotfix as i don't really want to,
prior to fully completing SP2.

I might be prepared to wait for SP3 which i believe is out soon to sort this
but does it address the SP2 install issues? or is there anything else i can
try with SP2.

Thanks
