I googled this and MSDN is stating that is is discontinued. I searched for
SQL-SN in SQL Server 2008 and I cannot find anything. What gives? This
almost seems like a hoax.

The "SQL-NS" mentioned in that link is SQL Namespace; not the same "SQL-NS" that this newsgroup is dedicated to. But if the namespace is discontinued then doesn't that make it iompossible to develope integrated application and to build Application hosing of SQL - NS ?????????? SQL Namespace is an API used to control Enterprise Manager functionality. As far as I'm aware, nothing else is in there. Since EM is gone, I don't see how this effects anything or anyone. I thought it was the .Net namespace for adding subscriptions and controlling SQL-NS etc ... Microsoft named two things the same... Long before there was SQL Server Notification Services (SQL-NS), there was SQL Namespace (SQL-NS). SQL Namespace has nothing to do with Notification Services, and it also has nothing to do with .NET namespaces. I saw the following regarding SQL 2008 July CTP :- SQL Server Notification Services will not be included as a component of SQL Server 2008, but will continue to be supported as part of the SQL Server 2005 product support life-cycle. Moving forward, support for key notification scenarios will be incorporated into SQL Server Reporting Services. Existing Reporting Services functionality, such as data driven subscriptions, addresses some of the notification requirements. Features to support additional notification scenarios may be expected in future releases. Does this mean notification services is dead ? I'm sad to say that Microsoft has departed from the normal depreciation process and has decided to remove SSNS from Katmai. There will be no official announcement on this, only the readme that you've cited. Microsoft envisions future versions of SSRS (not Katmai) will have enhancements that will allow it to mostly replace SSNS. But there is no migration path available in Katmai. In the meantime, I'm looking at ways to try to migrate instances to SSRS but it'll largely depend on the capabilities of SSRS in Katmai.
