Post subject: SQL Server 2005 Dev wont install on XP Pro.
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>sqlserver>setup (more info?)

Hi all... Having problems getting SQL Server to install... It's been a very
trying process to get this up and running. Prior to having my hard drive
wiped clean yesterday, I was able to have SQL 2000 and SQL 2005 installed
side by side just fine, along with Visual Studio 2003, 2005, 2008.
Everything ran fine (except for my computer as a whole which is why I had
hard drive wiped out and a fresh IT build put on). What is odd is that the
pre check says everything is just fine.

Anyway, yesterday i started installing my development tools again.
* Visual Studio 2005
* Visual Studio 2008
* Tried to installed SQL Server 2005 and it failed
* Uninstalled what bits and peices that did get installed.
* Installed SQL 2000 - installed just fine
* Tried to UPGRADE 2000 to 2005, again, failed
* Installed Office 2007
* Uninstalled SQL2005
* Uninstalled Office 2007
* Tried to install SQL 2005 - failed

The first thing that fails is OWC11. Not sure why other than it says there
is a previous version on there. Ok, not sure what that means. So, I
uninstalled all SQL server stuff, tried again, that still fails. Uninstalled
and ran just the OWC11 install, still failed.

The individual components that are failing are
1) OWC11
2) SQL Server Database Services
3) Workstation Components, Books Online and Development Tools

I've looked in the bootstrap logs, but when looking in them, I don't see
anything useful to the common human.

I've been trying to get this up and running for 2 days now... Any help will
be GREATLY appreciated!
