Archived from groups: microsoft>public>sqlserver>setup (more info?)

I am installing the iso-image file for SQL Server 2008 as a stan alone app.
Running through the steps, I get this message: Previous releases of Microsoft
Visual Studio 2008 SP1. I have downloaded this file VS90SP1-KB945140-ENU but
cannot run this file: I get a check mark on the dialog box screen for system
requirements for Incompatible processes checked. Any suggestions

Alex

Hi Alex,
Thank you for using Microsoft MSDN Managed Newsgroup.

From your description, I understand that you could not install your SQL Server 2008 due to the error message "Previous
releases of Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 SP1".
If I have misunderstood, please let me know.

The error message indicated that your existing Visual Studio 2008 did not have SP1 installed. It is the known issue if you
try to install a SQL Server 2008 feature that installs a Visual Studio 2008 SP1 component, and you have Visual Studio 2008
without a service pack installed, you receive the error message. You may refer to this article:
Actions that are required before you install SQL Server 2008 on a computer that has Visual Studio 2008 or the prerelease
version of SQL Server 2008 installed
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956139

Please refer to the list in the section "Required actions" to determine what the required actions you need to take before
you install SQL Server 2008. If you have Visual Studio 2008 installed without SP1 and no SQL Server 2008 installed on your
computer before, you can take one of the following actions according the list:
===============================================================
, Install Visual Studio 2008 SP1 before you install SQL Server 2008.
, Uninstall Visual Studio 2008, and then install SQL Server 2008. After SQL Server 2008 is installed, you can install Visual
Studio 2008, and then install Visual Studio 2008 SP1.

Do not install the following components of SQL Server 2008:
, Management Tools (Basic or Complete)
, Integration Services
, Business Intelligence Development Studio
If you want to install any of these components later, you must first install Visual Studio 2008 SP1.
==================================================================

You can download Visual Studio 2008 SP1 from this link:
Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Service Pack 1 (iso)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=27673C47-B3B5...67-BD99
&displaylang=en

Hope this helps. If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to let me know. Have a nice day!
