Archived from groups: per prev. post (more info?)

Probably you did not install your SQL Server 2008 Instance under this
("Test") Windows User Account and probably you did not add this user to the
"SQL Server System Administrators" list during SQL Server 2008 Setup. So,
you can't connect to your SQL Server 2008 instance using this user's Windows
account.

To accomplish this, connect to your SQL Server instance under a Windows
account which was added to the SQL Server System Administrators list by you
during installation. Then create a Login for this Windows user ("Test") or
for a Windows Group which includes this Windows user account.

Note:
The list I'm talking about is in the SQL Server 2008 Setup's: Database
Engine Configuration pane's Account Provisioning tab.

EKREM,

That is exactly what happened. When i did the install, I was using a
different logon Account instead of Alex-PC\Test. I be doing most development
work on this Account so I would like to use that. I am not sure how to
perform the steps you mentioned. Should I uninstall my installation and log
on to the test account and reinstall.

Thanks

Post subject: Re: SQL Server 2008 set up [Login to view extended thread Info.]
Archived from groups: per prev. post (more info?)

No Alex, you don't have to uninstall and reinstall a SQL Server instance
whenever you need to add a new Login.

I assume you installed the Client Tools ("SQL Server Management Studio" for
instance). This would be the easiest way for you to add a new Login to your
instance and you can find this tool here: "Start->Programs->Microsoft SQL
Server 2008". If you do not have SSMS installed, let me know.

However, you should log on to your Windows using your Windows user which was
added as System Administrator during SQL Server 2008 Setup.

Then follow these steps:
- Open SSMS
- Connect to your instance
- On the Object Explorer (which is a tree list on the left side of the
window) you'll see some nodes (such as Databases, Security...)
- Expand the "Security" node
- Right click on Logins node, then click New Login.
- New Login page opens. Click "Search..." button and then find your "Test"
user.
- On the same window (Login - New) you'll see some other options on the left
side. Click "Server Roles" and assign this "Test" user to a role if
necessary. For example, if you want this user to be a System Administrator,
click "sysadmin". For more information about these Server Fixed Roles, click
Help button on top of the window.
- If this Login will not be a member of "sysadmin" role, then go to User
Mapping options and map this Login to the appropriate databases and users.
Again, you can click Help for more information or ask to us.
