I have two installations of SQLServer (different versions) across my VPN.
I can get SQLServer connectivity across my VPN (via NamedPipes) from
SQLServer-2005 to SQLServer-2000, but not reverse (SQLServer-2000 to
SQLServer-2005). Is this an issue that anyone else has encountered?
Any assistance is appreciated.
thank you,
Blaise. >> Stay informed about: SQLServer-2005 connectivity to SQLServer-2000... |

SQL Server 2005 does not allow remote connectivity by default. If you are
unfamiliar with enabling a protocol on SQL Server 2005, review the short
tutorial in Books Online.

You are not correct Rick. For example SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition
does allow remote connections by default. If I remember correctly, Developer
Edition also allows it. Express and Standard Edition does not. For instance
if you install a SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition, network users can
connect to it using it's instance name and TCP/IP protocol by default.
Remote connection setting (TCP/IP be enabled\disabled) depends on the
edition of SQL Server.

Of course you are correct. I was being too brief. Sorry if I caused any
confusion.

No confusion for me, I just wanted to make it clear for the OP.
