Post subject: Snapshot replication
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>sqlserver>replication (more info?)

I really need some help with replication. I have over 150 remote sites with
MSDE db's that I want to replicate back to our headquarters. I want to keep
each db separate but have them on one SQL 2005 server. I don't want to get
into details as to why I'm doing this because it would take days to explain.

I've set up 5 sites as tests. I set up each site as publisher and
distributor. I set up our SQL 2005 box here as subscriber. I want to do
snapshot replication. I set up the snapshots to be done every night and that
part goes off without a hitch.

The problem I'm running into is the pull subscription. I set up the pull to
be schedule through Management Studio. Everything looks right to me, but what
do I know. Anyway, the snapshot gets created but it doesn't get pulled.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Should I set it up differently?
Help!

Rob - what happens when the distribution agent runs - what messages are
returned?
Also, I need to understand why this is not a transactional setup - does each
remote site have different schemas, so there are 150 schemas intended to
arrive on the publisher?

Can't do transactional...all remote db's are MSDE.

OK - sorry, missed that bit.
What about the other qns - are there 150 schemas, or is the data to be
amalgamated into the same set uf tables?
Also, what messages are returned when the distribution agent runs.

Rob,
this all sounds ok to me. I'm assuming the tables on the publisher are in
separate databases or have different names. You could have used transactional
with queued updating subscribers and then only get the changed data (the
central box is the publisher) or even merge. The latter would be overkill as
you are only pulling data. Anyway, what error are you getting?

Paul,

I appreciate your help but I got it. Turns out it was user error on my
part...I set up the scheduled snapshots but didn't enable them. Duh!
