Post subject: Unable to reinstall MSDE 2000 Rel A

Yesterday I rebuilt one of my Windows 2000 SP4 servers from a tape backup.
Everything was working fiine with the exception of the MSDE 2000 install. I
went into Add and remove programs and removed the MSDE 2000 install. I
restarted the server and attempted to reinstall it again. Everytime I
attempt to reinstall it I get to the end and the installer service begins to
roll back the installation.

The installation appears to do everything except create the agent services.

In the install log I have the following error code:
MainEngineThread is returning 1603

Not sure what's causing the failure here. Anyone see this before? I have
reinstalled SP4 for Win2000 and all windows updates.

I appreciate any help you can provide.
