Hi all,

Could someone tell me what the steps involved in upgrading FM 8 to FM
9 would be. I have never performed a filemaker upgrade so can someone
please tell me the step by step procedure to upgrade to FM 9 .

Thanks!
Deepti

For client and server both, there are step to step instructions in PDF
files.

FM Server needs to be stopped first, which means that you have to kick
all users out. Maybe you have to set it to manual start and boot the
system before you go on - the PDF file on the install CD (or on the
download part of FM's website) will tell you what you need to do.

Thanks so much for the reply.

So, I need to buy the "upgrade software" instead of FM 9 software?
Also, I just do the upgrade for both FM server and client and then
open the databases in FM 9. I do not need to make any other changes?

Thanks so much!

the cheaper upgrade version will suffice if you have valid keys for the
full version. If you are not sure, ask Filemaker Inc. before you buy.

That's about it. Bear in mind the the server machine will have to be
rebooted at least once.

You may want to upgrade to FM 10 directly.

Hi,

Thanks a ton! FM 10 might be a good idea.

Thank you.
