Post subject: 2 databases & synchronization.... Archived from groups: comp>databases, others (more info?)

Hi All,
I have built 2 VB6-ACCESS XP, programs (ADODC component used). The software
works fine, updates the database and all, without any troubles. I however
now need to do something else with this. The 2 programs are identical, they
are built for 2 offices 200 miles apart, and I want the programs to
synchronize the data between the 2, automatically. The 2 computers do not
have static IP's, they however do have internet access via broadband (they
need to connect to a connecting piece of software). What I was thinking of
doing was building a piece of software to run in the background that would
detect the IP every time they connected to the net and send it to a text
file on my Linux with Apache server (not Windows, therefore no MS-SQL
updating, for anybody who was thinking in that route), the computers would
then detect the IP in the text file and synchronize.
Questions:
1. How would I build the synchronization part of the software???
2. How would I build the IP detection and uploading bit (via FTP)
software???
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Pickles. >> Stay informed about: 2 databases & synchronization.... |

Pickles, regarding the IP portion of the problem, check into Dynamic DNS
(DDNS). The service is free to almost free, works extremely well. It will
make the dynamic IP addresses a non problem.
