| MySQL has this function, was wondering if this can be done with
Oracle.
Basically a query which uses the LIKE method, but is able to rank the
results in relevance, which ones match the most to the fewest??

You might try going to http://tahiti.oracle.com and typing in:
oracle text
You shouldn't assume any knowledge of MySQL in this forum. You also
should stop treating this forum and
news:comp.databases.oracle.server as a replacement for reading the
official Oracle documentation and as a free Oracle course. You should
post an example of the results of the LIKE function in MySQL.
However, above all, you should stop being a bore!!!
Apologies to Sybrand for any copyright violation.

With apologies to Sybrand Bakker.
You should not assume any knowledge of MySQL in this forum.
Please do not use these forums as a replacement for Reading
The Fine Manuals available free from Oracle.
This may amaze you but we have been very successful for 20+
years solving business problems with Oracle. Thus it is
reasonable to conclude that the product contains the necessary
functionality.

How come types like you, refusing to read, are always so experienced
in flaming away. Does it have to do with IQ?
Or are you an impersonation of 'Sideshow Bob' or 'Krusty the Clown'?

I am so grateful that I don't have to work with you or work with
people like you Sybrand.
A while back it was asked why activity in this group had dropped off
so much over recent years.
http://groups.google.co.uk/group/comp.databases.oracle.server/about?hl=en
The caustic and unfunny comments and insults from you Sybrand Bakker
and you Daniel Morgan are the sole reason for this groups continuing
demise.
MTek I suggest you post your queries to oracle-l from now on. It is a
mediated forum and the on-going poster vetting process immediately
excludes social misfits and their antisocial comments. The crowd that
lurk in oracle-l are there to help or seek help.

I am a Simpsons fan since a few months. It is airing on 'Comedy
Central', they just reached season 5, I believe.
I got hooked by the tune, which is a marvel, very much resembling
Bernsteins West Side Story. And of course the schoolboard gag, and the
couch gag.
Yesterday it was Sideshow Bob time, Sideshow Bob being released from
prison on parole, trying to murder Bart immediately.
I already knew Sideshow Bob gets his voice from Kelsey Grammer, the
weird psychiater in 'Cheers' and 'Frasier'.

Actually, both Daniel Morgan and myself are around here for at least

The link you posted actually demonstrates exactly *nothing*.
Not surprisingly, as you only contributed flames to this forum.
Heck, the demise might be caused by you, 'Mr.' Bullshit.
I strongly suggest you discontinue lurking and dump your vitriolic

I don't think that is it at all. Looking back on the high-volume
points in that post, I see several posters that have gone on to host
their own fora. Maybe that and google are the real reason. Not to
mention all the other groups on google, and the newer wave of things I
suppose Eddie Awad will be talking about those things

Oracle-l is a good resource, but it has issues, too. For example,
some people don't realize that while they are free to proselytize
religion and attempt to control behavior, others are free to be
offended by it. And the mailing list paradigm doesn't exactly support
thoughtful reasoned discourse, much more so even than usenet. So it
_has_ to have worse netcops than here, you call it vetting, I call it
too much moderation. Don't tell a joke, you might be kicked off! And
they decided to make it like it is: http://www.freelists.org/archives/oracle-l/10-2005/msg01180.html
I say, don't be afraid of your freedom!
