Please provide me any references to standards efforts for class/table
definitions for common classes. For instance, what should be the
standard table name and column names for a person table?

I have found an RFC related to this in the LDAP space (links:
http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc2798.html) but am looking for something
general for databases. I expect something also exists for XML and
started to find something about persons at
http://ns.hr-xml.org/2_2/HR-XML-2_2/CPO/PersonName.pdf but guess I was
looking more for an ER diagram or a class diagram.

Any ideas where to start looking for this information?

Thanks,
TimJowers

Like you might have guessed, there is no standard definition of person since
there are different reasons you store information of a person. For example,
CIA has different needs than a video rent shop. Anyhow, you might like to
check vcard; I guess it is used quite often with PDAs, email programs and so
on.
