Hello:

How do you install SQL 2005 Tools (Mgmt. Studio) on a Vista laptop? I
successfully installed SQL 2005 Standard Edition including service pack 2.
But, Vista refuses to install the Tools as it says that I am trying to change
the Edition that is on here or something.

Since the CD install of the Tools, at that point, did not work I tried to
use Add/Remove Programs. That did not work either because it wanted me to
stick in the CD for the Express Edition Tools. I am not trying to install
Express Edition.

Next, I tried to find the setup.exe file in the Tools folder, but there is
not one.

Help!

Are you sure you installed SQL 2005 Standard Edition, or could it have been
the Express Edition? That's what the error prompt sounds like. Or maybe some
other application installed a SQL Express instance?

I have SQL 2005 on Vista x64 and don't remember any issues installing the
SQL Tools.

Did you re-run the SQL Server Setup after installing a Database Engine
instance and applying SP2?

If so, then this happens because of the different versions. So, you should
start the Setup using SKUUPGRADE=1 parameter.
