I am trying to install sql server 2005 on my Windows Server 2003 RC2 SP2 box
and I get the following error when it is trying to install the SQL Database
Server component: ""unhandled win32 exception occurred in sqlservr.exe"
After I get this message I get the dugger message that I respond no to then
cancel the installation of that component and eventually get a SQL server did
not install message. I have tried installing the SQL Server that I
downloaded from technet download page and the DVD version that I got in the
training book that I have. Both the Windows Server and the SQL Server are
the 32 bit versions. Any help would be greatly appricated

Hello there,
We also did face the same issue in installing SQL 2005 Entprise Edition.

This is because of nubmer of processors to the Physical socket ratio. We had 4 phsyical processors with 6 cores each. I should be 2 to the power of n.

Below link helped to solve the issue.

Best of luck,
